I met Paulina in Rome while I was collaborating with the photographer Gail Albert Halaban, at the time that Paulina was solo traveling around Europe. Pau was sitting right on the fountain in Piazza Navona that the artist wanted to portrait. Gail needed to clear up the fountain to get a shot with no one sitting around, so I approached Paulina and asked: “Excuse me...can you move for just 3 seconds please?" These were the famous romantic first words we exchanged. Kindly, Paulina moved and after we took the photo we started talking.
 
Luckily, I had a break before the next shooting and invited Pau for a motorcycle ride around Rome. From that day on we did everything to we could do to make it work.
We have been living together for 5 years now.
 
This painting is about that first glance. I tried to remember how those beautiful eyes looked at me when I went to talk to her, and I wanted to represent through colors who she was then.
 
The thing that fascinates me about my new series is that it focuses on who we are in the inside. For example, seen from the outside, she looks exactly the same person she was 5 years ago, but if I were to paint her today, the colors I would use for her abstract would probably be different, because over time, through the experiences of life and as we change, new colors grow within us.

Conocí a Paulina en Roma mientras colaboraba con la fotógrafa Gail Albert.Hablaban en el mismo momento que Paulina viajaba sola por Europa. Ella estaba sentada justo en la fuente de Piazza Navona que la artistaquería fotografiar. Necesitaba despejar la fuente para que nadie estuviera sentado alrededor, así que me acerqué a Paulina y le dije en inglés: “Disculpa... ¿Puedes moverte por solo 3 segundos por favor?”. Estas fueron las famosas primeras palabras románticas que intercambiamos. Muy amable, Paulina se movió y después de tomar la foto comenzamos a hablar. Por suerte, tuve un descanso antes de la próxima sesión e invité a Pau a hacer un recorrido en moto por las calles de Roma.
 
Desde ese día hicimos todo lo posible para que funcionara. Hoy llevamos
5 años viviendo juntos. Esta pintura trata sobre esa primera mirada. Traté de recordar cómo me miraban esos hermosos ojos cuando fui a hablar con ella, y quise
representar a través de colores quién era Pauilna en ese entonces. Lo que me fascina de mi nueva serie es que se centra en quiénes somos por dentro. Por ejemplo, vista desde afuera, se ve exactamente como la misma persona que era hace 5 años, pero si tuviera que pintar a la Paulina de hoy vista desde adentro, probablemente los colores que usaría para su abstracto serían diferentes, porque con el tiempo, a través de las experiencias de la vida y a medida que cambiamos, crecen nuevos colores
dentro de nosotros.
