Gerardo lives and has his studio at Fábrica la Aurora. I remember that the first time I saw him walking down the streets of San Miguel, I thought: “he is an artist”, and not by his extravagant way to be, in fact, Gerardo’s intentions are far away from being in the spotlight. That thought came to my mind because I felt the presence of someone who does art, without even knowing what his medium was...
Gerardo Ruiz was born in 1948 in Puebla, Mexico. He studied at Academia de San Carlos in Mexico City, and by the time he graduated he was granted a scholarship to continue his studies in sculpture. At the same time, he started his career as a visual arts professor at that same academy.
Gerardo is a painter and when I thought of him for this painting, the idea was to portray him with some tools such as brushes, colors, maybe an easel.
However, while I was carefully listening to his story and imagining the colors of his essence, Gerardo told me that his real childhood dream was to be a musician. I had no doubt, at least in my painting Gerardo was going to be the musician he always wanted to be.
